1Lt Jan Kirby Flight died on August 13, 1955 as a result of burns sustained in the crash of a Civil Air Patrol plane while on an Air Force training mission are coming in from all parts of the United States.
1Lt Kirby was vitally interested in aviation as a student pilot and as an aircraft owner.
On August 22, 1955, she succumbed to the burns and injuries sustained after the plane she was riding in crashed and burned in Rolling Hills.
She was den mother for Den 6 of Cub Scout pack 726 and an officer in Civil Air Patrol Group 7 of Long Beach.
Rev. Lyle Gangsei, pastor of Riviera’s Church of the Resurrection conducted services for her, ‘followed by Civil Air Patrol military rites conducted at Green Hills Memorial Park cemetery immediately prior to interment.
