NORTH ENGLISH, IA: One person died Saturday afternoon and another was injured in the crash of a Civil Air Patrol Iowa Wing Cessna 182.
The crash happened a few hundred yards from White Pigeon airport in Keokuk County, about 25 miles north of Oskaloosa.
“They were flying around doing pilot proficiency training and navigating to find the airport nearby and then go back to Ankeny,” said Capt. Doug Jansen of the Civil Air Patrol unit based in Ames.
The 55 year old Civil Air Patrol instructor pilot, Chaplain Major Christie Battle of Des Moines, was killed shortly before 4 p.m. The pilot, Lt James Johnson, 52, of Oskaloosa, was taken to University Hospitals in Iowa City.
